ADAS Recalibration After Windshield Replacement

Which systems depend on the windshield camera

Why a fraction of a degree matters
- A camera aimed one degree high at the glass is aimed several feet off at 100 yards — which is exactly the distance at which automatic braking has to make its decision.
- The vehicle will not always throw a dash light. Plenty of cars will happily run a mis-aimed camera and simply brake late, or nudge you toward the wrong lane line.
- Static recalibration uses manufacturer targets set at measured distances on level ground. Dynamic recalibration is a road procedure at a specified speed. Some vehicles require both.

Does my car actually need ADAS recalibration after a windshield replacement?
If there is a camera module behind the mirror, then yes — the manufacturer requires recalibration any time that glass is removed. Tell us your year, make and model when you call and we will tell you straight away whether it applies to your vehicle.
What happens if the camera is never recalibrated?
The driver assistance systems keep running, but they run against a wrong reference. That can mean late or missed automatic braking, lane keep that pulls toward the wrong line, or adaptive cruise that misjudges distance. It is also a liability problem if the vehicle is later in a collision.
Can recalibration be done at my house?
Dynamic recalibration is a road procedure and travels well. Static recalibration needs level ground and controlled space for the targets, so it depends on the vehicle and on your driveway. We will tell you what your vehicle needs when you book, so nobody is surprised on the day.
